Association for Cultural Evolution with the Dr. Ruth of Psychedelics Nina Graboi, age 77, is the author of One Foot in the Future, the astonishing tale of her escape from the Nazi invasion of Europe, rise to success in the USA, eventual disillusionment with material success, and discovery of vast new spiritual realities when she was initiated into LSD by Timothy Leary. Nina founded the Third Force Lecture Bureau that promoted such speakers as Leary, Ram Dass, Alan Watts, and other psychedelic luminaries. She ran the New York City Center for Learys Millbrook-based League of Spiritual Discovery in the 1960s. Nina is a popular lecturer who experienced Cosmic Consciousness, swam with Dr. John Lillys dolphins and hung out with the world-famous leaders of the psychedelic era. In this interview, Nina discusses her interest in the ethical, social, interpersonal and personal aspects of psychedelics. She talks about the impact of psychedelics on the culture and the individual, and the ways they have changed us—our values, our relationships, our views on God, on life, on death—as well as their effect on consciousness. Nina believes it is time to open up the subject, and believes that her age, experience and appearance will allow her to do to psychedelics what Dr. Ruth did to sex.

Carlos Castaneda, Academic Opportunism and the Psychedelic Sixties Carlos Castaneda, Academic Opportunism and the Psychedelic Sixties reveals that Dr. Castanedas epic apprenticeship to an elusive Yaqui Indian sorcerer was more allegorical than actual. The author illustrates how Castanedas models for don Juan Matus, and his Mazatec ally, don Genaro, were drawn from his contact with Ramon Medina Silva, the famous Huichol Indian shaman. Castanedas books still enchant millions of Americans, but caricature Huichol religion and jeopardize religious freedom for Native American Church members and Huichol who revere peyote as the heart of the Creator.

Grow yer own Stone (Dare to) Grow Yer Own Stone. This ridiculous project has brought me both joy and sorrow, but I have had a wonderful time, and was spared the burden of wealth. I continue to receive delightful letters from amazing people in a lot of crazy places. Met wonderful souls, saw heap good smoke-ah! I also have been raided. Previous publishers who carried Grow Yer Own Stone have been raided. Finally, in 1984, a bill was passed to stop questionable books from entering Canada, and uh, that book on pot. So now you can be raided to! Looking at this information is forbidden in Canada. This book is guaranteed to exit a document shredder in 10 seconds. This book has also permitted me audience to a number of ever migrating government officials who tell me, off the record, that the Lawsmiths are terrified of going near cannabis at all. The bridge to Function Junction is out--we really are on our own. Thinking of hacking out a plot, out there in jungle? Read on...

Dennis gave rational explicit information with comparisons between a common appetite suppressant, flourafin, and MDMA, using basic chemistry. With Bruce EISNER, Jeff BECK & Rick DOBLIN.
Psychedelics in the 1990's: Legal & Practical Challenges to Research Featuring Ram DASS, Timothy LEARY, Mark KLEIMAN, Robert ZANGER, & Rick DOBLIN. In contrast information is generated. Hear Tim Leary remind us of our friends, listen to his subtle and not-so-subtle suggestions, playfully, cheerlead, and evoke true heartfelt expressions of camaraderie within historic relationships such as with Ram Dass, who speaks beautifully. We were glad to capture that experience on tape, and to present it to you. The video shows it nicely but the words will grab you without the visuals. A heart warmer, especially if you are familiar with the events of the "golden age of psychedelics", if you aren't, we suggest reading "Flashbacks", by Tim Leary and "Storming Heaven", by Jay Stevens. Terence ended the session with the audience in an uproar of appreciation for his outrageousness.

Psychedelics... A Collection of the Most Exciting New Material on Psychedelic Drugs Psychedelics... is a broad and serious inquiry into the nature of psychedelic drug use. It provides powerful examples of why people use these substances and why they stay true to the subject. Why are these substances so popular among the young? Are they dangerous? Can they really be used in therapy? Are there religious implications? Why are they revered as sacraments in other cultures? Who are the people who use them? Why is Madison Avenue so enthralled with the psychedelic sub-culture of the 1990s? The 1990s has seen a resurgence of interest in psychedelic drugs and culture, and a new wave of experts and pundits has emerged within the field. Psychedelics offers original, contemporary articles written by those who are at the forefront of this movement. If you have an interest in psychedelic drugs and culture, and are wondering what is going on today, Psychedelics will serve as an excellent introduction.

Sisters of the Extreme: Women on Writing on the drug experience Sisters of the Extreme features the drug experience of Charlotte Bronte, Louisa May Alcott, Anais Nin, Maya Angelou, Billie Holiday, Nina Hagen, Diane di Prima, Carrie Fisher, and many others. It captures the drug experiences of women from diverse times, social backgrounds, and professions in memoir, fiction, poetry, song, and art. From the mythic associations of ancient history and the rituals of indigenous peoples, through the rampant opiate intoxication of the Victorian era, to the junkies, psychedelic pioneers, anthropologists, and ravers of the late twentieth century, the selections in this book show us that the real experience of women are far more compelling than antiseptic socialogical studies or sensationalized tabloid accounts.
SOMA The Divine Hallucinogen SOMA has been shrouded in mystery for centuries. It is simultaneously a sacred hallucinogenic plant used in secret Hindu rituals, a personified god, and a vital cosmological principle. Yet despite its importance, scholars have been unable to positively identify soma or to pierce the mysteries surrounding its use. Summarizing previous research on the subject, David Spess goes far beyond his predecessors and shows that soma provides an important key to understanding the earliest systemized methods of medicine, psychology, magic, rejuvination, longevity, and alchemy. Most significant is that Spesss intensive research has at last produced a convincing---and surprising---identification of the plants used to create the soma drink: Nelumbo nucifera, the sacred lotus of India, as well as members of the Nymphaea (water lily) genus.David L. Spess has a masters degree in microbiology/mycology and studied Sanskrit at the Naropa Institute. David has traveled throughout India and the Middle East researching this book. He was formerly a research mycologist for the FDA and has taught at the University of Colorado. He lives in New Mexico

The Great Book of HEMP... The Complete Guide to the Environmental, Commercial, and Medicinal Uses of the Worlds Most Extraordinary Plant HEMP, Cannabis sativa, has been called mans greatest plant ally. It has been worshipped as a source of spiritual enlightenment and a sustainer of human life, but until recently hemps amazing past was virtually forgotten. Once the foundation of civilizations economy, it was not until the twentieth century that hemp was outlawed. But hemp is back. Europe and Canada have lifted bans on growing industrial hemp and it has exploded onto the marketplace in a dazzling array of products: from jeans, sneakers, and lip balm to tree-free paper, fiberboard, and insulation. With new technology it is possible to make anything from hemp that we now make from petroleum--including paint, plastics, and biomass energy. In this illustrated, comprehensive guide, Rowan Robinson reveals hemps hidden history. He examines hemps role in as mans first fiber crop, its role in Hinduism and other world religions, and as the catalyst of cultural revolution in the 1960s. Robinson also exposes the prejudices and cover-ups behind the marijuana hysteria of the last fifty years. The Great Book of Hemp is your complete guide to the worlds most extraordinary plant.

The Intelligence Agents It is with great joy that New Falcon Publications releases the fifth and final volume of Dr. Timothy Learys Future History Series. During his extraordinary life Dr. Leary was known as (among many other things) a world-renowned psychologist; a student at West Point; a defrocked Harvard professor; a hero; a relentless champion of brain-change; a counterculture guru; a stand-up philosopher; a prisoner of the U.S. Federal Government; a developer of computer software; friend to such notables as Aldous Huxley, William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg; the most dangerous man on the planet; and an inspiration for millions of freedom-loving and free-thinking people throughout the world. Among Dr. Learys favorite metaphors was that of baseball. Of his ideas, he said: ...the performing philosopher does not come down the mountain with truths carved in stone. He/she comes to bat several times a day, trying to whack out a conceptual hit. In baseball, a batter who gets one hit out of three will usually lead the league. A thought-inventor is voted into the Hall of Fame or wins the coveted MVP (Most Valuable Philosopher) award on the basis of batting average over the years. For example, one-third of (my) ideas are kinda silly, one-third are kinda boring. But one-third are homeruns. When they enter your brains they can impregnate, fuse with your other thoughts and create software for programming your life.

The Mystery of Manna: The Psychedelic Sacrament of the Bible When Moses fed manna to the Israelites, he told them that after eating the miraculous bread they would see the glory of God. And indeed they did: They looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Yahveh appeared in a cloud. In The Mystery of Manna, religious historian Dan Merkur provides compelling evidence that this was the Israelites initiation into a psychedelic mystery cult that induced spiritual visions through bread containing ergot--a psychoactive fungus containing the same chemicals from which LSD is made.Dan Merkur, Ph.D, has taught at Syracuse University and Auburn Theological Seminary. His research focuses on the varieties of religious experience in historical, cross-cultural, and psychoanalytial perspectives. He is the author of many books, including Powers Which We Do Not Know, Gnosis, and The Ecstatic Imagination. He lives in Toronto, Ontario

The Politics of Ecstasy The Politics of Ecstasy is Timothy Learys most significant work on the social and political ramifications of psychedelics. First published in 1968, this collection spans the period from research at Harvard to the San Francisco Summer of Love. Included are: The Seven Tongues of God, The Fifth Freedom--The Right to Get High, Ecstacy Attacked--Ecstasy Defended, The Magical Mystery Trip, She Comes in Colors, Hormonal Politics: The Menopausal Left-Right and the Seed Center, Poet of the Interior Journey, A Trip with Paul Krassner, Start Your Own Religion, American Education as an Addictive Process and Its Cure, Soul Session, Gods Secret Agent A.O. S. 3, M.I.T. is T.I.M. Spelled Back-wards, The Buddha as Drop Out, The Mad Virgin of Psychedelia, and more. Much of The Politics of Ecstacy appeared in a variety of publications including The Psychedelic Review, The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, Esquire, Harvard Review, Playboy, The Realist, Evergreen Review and The San Francisco Oracle. .... The Politics of Ecstasy, provides a more accurate picture of the brave neuronaut whom I believe to be the Galileo of our age, albeit a Galileo possessed of considerable Irish blarney (which makes him more agreeable). Of more importance, perhaps, is the light this book casts on the centurys outlaw decade at a time when Sixties revisionism is epidemic. -- Tom Robbins.
The Process of Discovery MIND STATES CONFERENCE: Current Perspectives on Visionary Plants & Drugs: Dr. Shulgins talk described the process that starts with a point of information (this is a psychoactive cactus) and ends with a pure chemical (this is a psychoactive compound). The many traps and pitfalls usually encountered are enumerated, using a current research project as an example. Alexander T. Shulgin, Ph.D, is a pharmacologist and chemist. He has synthesized and tasted hundreds of psychoactive compounds. Along with his wife Ann, Shulgin co-authored the book Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved: A Chemical Love Story (PIHKAL). The long anticipated sequel, Tryptamines I Have Known and Loved: The Continuation (TIHKAL), was just released in October, 1997.

As well, Myron will share his thoughts on how the appropriate use of psychedelics can be extremely effective in overcoming symptoms of aging, such as tiredness, losing mental focus, sore and stiff muscles, and arthritic symptoms. Myron Stolaroff is one of the great psychedelic elders. Active in the psychedelic community for nearly 40 years, Myron has published numerous papers relating to psychedelics, as well as two books: Thantos to Eros: Thirty-five Years of Psychedelic Exploration, which details Myrons own psychedelic explorations, and the recently published book, The Secret Chief: Conversations with a Pioneer of the Underground Psychedelic Therapy Movement Lord Nose AND Peter Stafford Showed an extensive slide presentation of LORD NOSES photos of luminaries with historical commentary by both. The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience was published in 1966, just as the first legal restrictions on the use of psychedelic substances were being enacted. The authors pioneering work on the effects of LSD on the human psyche, which was viewed by its participants as possibly heralding a revolution in the study of the mind, was among the casualities of this interdiction. As a result, the promising results to which their studies attested were never fully explored. Nevertheless, their fifteen years of research represents a sober and authoritative appraisal of what remains one of the most controversial developments in the study of the human psyche.
